Cheryl, Julie and I took a trip to the 11 Spring St. today.
Basically, it's to be a popular graffiti target in lower Manhattan that's being converted to condos, and the inside is an exhibit that's sort of a last-hurrah for the artists (some flown in from other countries) before the conversion. After this, they'll be cleaning up the outside walls of the building, and constructing new walls to cover the inside - the art inside will be covered but preserved as a sort of time capsule.

wow, really cool! so the inside of the building was also graffiti-ed? or was that the art flown in from other countries temporarily set up in there?
ReplyDeletethe inside of the building was actually graffiti-ed. the graffiti artists were flown in (some were from other countries, some from nyc) to tag it.
ReplyDeletethe show was really inspiring for me as an illustrator/artist, but i wish i knew more about some of the meanings behind the art, and the motivation. we were so rushed that i didnt have much time to really analyze and reflect, but i'll look back at the pics since we seemed to have taken plenty between the two of our cameras =)
ReplyDeleteP.S. I'm still really glad we stayed and waited in line. I talked to Andrew and Lily, and they said they didnt even get in because the line was even longer earlier in the day, and they had to leave for lily's company party.
